Supreme Court Justice Dalia Dorner:  Advancing Equality in Israeli Jurisprudence

Co-Sponsored by the OC Women Lawyers Association & the OC Jewish Bar Association

Presented by Justice Dalia Dorner, Israeli Supreme Court Justice (Emerita)

Please join us in an interactive lunch with Justice Dorner to discuss her impact on Israel’s judicial system and politics, as well as her current role as President of the Israel Press Council.

During her tenure at the Supreme Court, Justice Dorner championed human rights, freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Some of her landmark rulings include: The Miller case, holding that the Israeli Air Force could not deny a woman’s right to become an Air Force pilot; The Bakri case, holding that the Israel Film Council could not ban the screening of a documentary called “Jenin Jenin,” a Palestinian perspective to an Israeli military operation in Jenin, because it would be tantamount to censorship; The Horev case, holding that the Ministry of Transportation could not close a major street to motor traffic on Sabbath and Jewish holidays during hours of prayer because it did not adequately consider the interests of local secular residents.
