The associate will focus in civil litigation, employment litigation, insurance litigation, municipal/public entity litigation, real estate and construction matters. Position Description: ICLC is part of the groundbreaking Right to Counsel Coalition and countywide Stay Housed LA initiative that brings together more than 25 legal service providers and community-based organizations to prevent homelessness by defending homes. ICLC seeks a talented, full-time Supervising Attorney to join the Tenant Defense Project (TDP) leadership team, focusing on trial advocacy training and in-court support for our growing attorney team. The Supervising Attorney will have a trial focus, legal case management and supervisory responsibilities. They may have a reduced caseload of eviction defense representation of vulnerable clients. Responsibilities:
• Provide substantive legal supervision, support, and mentorship to a team of attorneys and fellows. • Collaborate on a trial skills training program for newly admitted attorneys and prioritize providing in-court support to less experienced attorneys, including regularly second-chairing unlawful detainer jury trials. • Lead ICLC’s participation in a trial skills workshop for pro per litigants in partnership with community-based organizations within the Stay Housed LA program. • Supervise legal case management, including the maintenance of proper case files and record-keeping. • Provide other legal training and technical assistance to staff and partners as directed. • Represent the organization in meetings with funders and partner agencies as assigned. • Participate regularly in community outreach events, including legal clinics, and develop relationships with partners. • Carry a caseload unlawful detainer cases. • Other duties as assigned.
Hiring Criteria: Commitment to ICLC’s mission and values. Minimum of three years of eviction defense or housing litigation experience. Admitted to the CA state bar or in another state and eligible to practice as a Registered Legal Aid Attorney under Rule 9.45 of the California Rules of Court. Ability to assume responsibility quickly and independently manage varied responsibilities. Commitment to client-centered advocacy, and ability to build trust and rapport with a wide range of clients and team members in a kind, appropriate, and effective manner. Strong interpersonal skills and able to cultivate relationships with partner organizations. Desire to mentor junior staff, work as part of a team, and collaborate with project staff and partners. Compensation: Salary ranges from $ $91,000 - $107,000. Excellent benefits.

Department Overview UC Legal - Office of the General Counsel (UCL) provides legal services to the university, including representation, advice, research and training. We also provide legal opinions to the Board of Regents, administration, faculty, staff and others acting on the university's behalf. We report jointly to the Board of Regents and the president. Position Summary The Managing Counsel of Strategic Legal Initiatives (MC-SLI) will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Legal Policy and Operations, and will be a member of the Immediate Office of the General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs (GC/SVP).
