Applications are now open to serve on State Bar committees.

We seek nonlawyer public members, lawyers, and current and former judicial officers interested in serving on a State Bar committee. Nonlawyer public members receive a small paid stipend for their time. Apply online by Monday, May 1, 2023.

Volunteers who are selected will play an essential role in guiding the work of the State Bar in its efforts in support of its core mission of protecting the public through the licensing, regulation and discipline of attorneys and by working to increase the diversity of the legal profession and increase access to legal services. 

In support of our continuing efforts to increase diversity in the legal profession and throughout the work of the State Bar, this recruitment is intended to ensure a broad and diverse pool of applicants.

Current appointment opportunities:

• California Board of Legal Specialization: open to all.
• California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. (CRLA): open to attorneys with knowledge of delivery of "quality legal services to the poor" and who reasonably reflect the diversity of attorneys and potential clients in CRLA's service area.
• Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation: open to lawyers, former judicial officers (retired superior or appellate court), and nonlawyer public members. Click "Read More" under appointments information to learn about workload and time commitment.
• Committee of Bar Examiners: open to California licensed lawyers.
• Committee of State Bar Accredited and Registered Schools: open to law school deans and nonlawyer public members with accreditation expertise.

• Law School Council: open to law school deans and administrators only.
• Legal Services Trust Fund Commission: open to lawyers, judicial officers, and nonlawyer public members.
