As part of its mission statement, OCWLA is committed to charitable giving. In addition to the monetary donations OCWLA makes to local charities, OCWLA focuses each quarter on a project where members can contribute in non-monetary ways.

This summer, OCWLA has partnered with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Orange County for its annual back to school picnic. CASA is a non-profit organization with the mission of providing a voice for youth in the child welfare system through a unique one-on-one relationship with trained and supervised court appointed volunteer advocates. CASA works to ensure these youths are safe, have a permanent home, and an opportunity to thrive.

    How You Can Participate

On July 27, OCWLA members will volunteer at CASA's annual back to school picnic. The youth and their advocates participate in a myriad of activities from arts and crafts to sports to bouncing in the bounce house. In addition, each student leaves with a backpack full of school supplies for the upcoming school year. OCWLA members will "work" each of the different activity stations, assisting the youth as needed.

CASA has requested both men and women volunteers to provide role models of both genders to the children. For the safety of the children, all volunteers must be adults.

The last day to register is Friday, July 12, 2019, as we need to provide the names to CASA of OC in advance. Members will receive OCWLA shirts to wear at the event. For the protection of the children, the location will be provided to the registered attendees in advance.

For more information about CASA of OC and its work, please visit CASA's website.
