Happy June, OCWLA Members and Friends!

As spring gives way to summer, this season offers a natural moment to reflect on both growth and momentum within our community.

The importance of community building within the legal profession remains evident through the many ways OCWLA continues to create spaces for meaningful connections and growth.

In a profession that often feels demanding and fast-paced; community matters! It matters when we mentor newer attorneys, when we support one another through challenges, when we celebrate each other’s successes, and when we simply take the time to connect outside the courtroom or office. Some of the strongest professional relationships begin, not through formal introductions, but through shared experiences and showing up for one another.

This past month, our Coffee Meet & Greet was a wonderful example of creating welcoming opportunities for members to connect. It was inspiring to see attorneys, judges, and students from different backgrounds and stages of their careers come together to build relationships and strengthen the supportive network that makes OCWLA so special. Creating opportunities for students and newer members of the profession to engage directly with experienced practitioners remains an important part of fostering a strong and inclusive legal community.

We also collaborated through our joint AI CLE program with the Business and Corporate Section of the OCBA. This program highlighted not only the evolving role of technology in the legal profession, but also the importance of engaging in these conversations together. As our profession continues to change, collaboration and open dialogue remain essential. Programs like these allow us to learn from one another, exchange perspectives, and thoughtfully navigate the future of the practice of law.

That spirit of collaboration continued through the co-sponsored South Asian Bar Association, OCWLA, and Mommy Esq. CLE program Modern Family Building: Fertility, Law, and the Future of IVF. By bringing together practitioners from different backgrounds and experiences, the program fostered meaningful discussion on rapidly developing areas of law that deeply impact individuals, families, and our communities. These conversations remind us that, even as the law evolves, our strength as a legal community comes from our willingness to learn, support, and grow together.

This spirit of collaboration was also reflected in the participation of our members at the annual OC Unity Bar Summit, where legal leaders and affiliate bar organizations from across Orange County came together to discuss ways to support judicial diversity and continue creating pathways for future generations of attorneys. Seeing OCWLA members actively engaged in these important conversations was a meaningful reminder that community-building extends well beyond individual organizations and is strengthened through partnership and shared purpose.

Additionally, many of our members attended Justice in Bloom hosted by Orange County Asian American Bar Association, further demonstrating OCWLA’s commitment to supporting our affiliate bar community and fostering meaningful connections across organizations. Opportunities to show up for one another, celebrate each other’s accomplishments, and strengthen relationships across the legal community are an important part of the collaborative spirit that continues to make Orange County’s legal community so unique.

We also had the privilege of celebrating with Elizabeth G. Macias Legal Academy as it marked its 10th anniversary and honored students graduating from the program. Supporting and encouraging future members of the legal profession is an important part of building a stronger and more inclusive legal community, and it was inspiring to see the continued impact of the Academy’s work over the past decade.

What continues to make OCWLA extraordinary is not only the quality of our programming, but the people behind it — members who consistently invest in each other and in the broader legal community. Whether through mentorship, volunteerism, leadership, or simply taking the time to welcome someone new, each of you contributes to the strong and supportive community we are proud to be building together.

As we look ahead we remain excited to continue building connections within our legal community through upcoming programs, collaborations, and opportunities to support one another both professionally and personally. We also encourage members to be on the lookout for the announcement of our Attorney of the Year, Judge of the Year, and Advancement of Women awardees at ourJune 17th Mixer, as well as ourHigh Teacelebrating OCWLA’s Past Presidents on June 28th.

Thank you for continuing to show up, support one another, and help shape a legal community grounded in professionalism, collaboration, and connection. I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events as we continue building that community together.
